MILFORD, Mass. — Heading to the polls in force Tuesday, voters backed a ban on recreational marijuana shops and grow and testing facilities in town. The Milford Daily News reports the referendum, with 56.3 percent of voters supporting the prohibition, came less than a year after a majority of Milford voters supported legalizing the drug in a statewide election. Donna Niro, chairwoman of Milford Community Against Recreational Marijuana Retail Establishments (CARES), said the results indicate voters are concerned with what local marijuana shops could mean for underage drug users and Milford’s reputation. “This is very positive and I think...

The Massachusetts marijuana law is getting a rewrite. The state has actually two marijuana laws — approved by voters — that Statehouse lawmakers revised, largely behind closed doors. The medical marijuana law passed in 2012 and the recreational marijuana law passed in 2016. The 2016 state law broadly legalized recreational marijuana use for adults ages 21 and over. Marijuana remains illegal at the federal level. The revisions are in a bill Gov. Charlie Baker signed into law on Friday, July 28. Here’s what you need to know about the revisions, based on information provided by lawmakers like state Sen....

This Week In Weed: The Art of Joint Rolling

    March 10, 2015

You can be an artist at anything these days, from painting to cooking and in Tony Greenhand’s case, joint rolling. In this case, I almost feel like the words joint rolling should be changed to something more appropriate, like joint sculpting. Being an awful joint roller myself,I find this piece especially disturbing as I have struggled for so long just to roll a basic joint and Tony is making unicorns and ducks and even human forms. This is an introduction to the man who is really changing the J game and giving the audience an insight into some...

AN INTERVIEW WITH ADDISON DEMOURA OF STEEP HILL

    March 10, 2015

by Mike Cann Addison DeMoura, the co-founder and chief business development officer at Steep Hill Halent, a testing lab facility in several states, is one of the most eagerly anticipated speakers at this weekend’s New England Cannabis Convention at the Castle at Park Plaza in Boston. This comes as no surprise, as Massachusetts cannabis enthusiasts and patients have had to spend a lot of time and effort on the political side of things, and can probably use some talk about strains and applications. On that note, I reached out to DeMoura to discuss his company and coming home to...

By The Cannabist Staff The SXSW-premiering documentary film “Rolling Papers” — which follows Denver Post and Cannabist journalists, critics and columnists covering the first year of legal marijuana sales in the modern world — released its first clip today. Deadline Hollywood debuted the clip — a scene introducing two central characters in the documentary, Denver Post editor Greg Moore and Post marijuana editor Ricardo Baca. The documentary released a short video clip last year as a part of its successful $50,000 Kickstarter campaign — but the above clip is a scene from the actual film debuting in Austin next...

Jane Fonda’s not afraid of real talk on marijuana. The 77-year-old actress-activist says she still gets high, according to “The One and Only Jane Fonda,” a new interview in DuJour magazine. “I’ll smoke pot every now and then,” Fonda told DuJour. But given pot’s mind-altering qualities, Fonda doesn’t often combine cannabis with her trips to the movie theater. “I cannot see a movie on pot,” she said in the interview. “The number of movies I’ve seen thinking, ‘This is probably the best I have ever seen,’ and then I’ll see it again sober and think, ‘What was I thinking?’”...

Ben & Jerry Are Totally Down For Weed Ice Cream

    March 9, 2015

Famed ice cream impresarios Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield declared on HuffPo Live that they’d support making a cannabis-infused version of their sweet treats available where marijuana is legal. “Makes sense to me,” Cohen said, while savoring a bite of ice cream. “Combine your pleasures.” Greenfield stopped short of fully endorsing a Ben & Jerry’s weed-filled flavor; he told HuffPo’s Alyona Minkovski that he and Cohen have had “previous experiences with substances,” and said, “I think legalizing marijuana is a wonderful thing, rather than putting people in jail.”...

Demand high for Ben & Jerry’s Marijuana-infused ice cream

    March 9, 2015

America is waking up the premise of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream infused with the body-buzzing active ingredients of marijuana. The founders of Ben & Jerry’s dropped a time bomb on Huffington Post Feb. 18, stating they were open to making a legal, cannabis-infused ice cream flavor. This week, the media got a bad case of the munchies. An infused ice cream “makes sense to me,” said co-founder Ben Cohen. “Combine your pleasures. … Where it’s legal!” “It’s not my decision,” said co-founder Jerry Greenfield. “If it was my decision we would be doing it. Fortunately, we have wiser...
